Happy Birthday Ruthie Baby, with solid production by Glynn Johns and the gifted Nicky Hopkins on piano, expands on the rustic tone of the band's first album. The title track is a rousing pub rock tribute to one of the band's supporters, a touching picture of life as a struggling musician. Jazz influences permeate the propulsive "Reader to Writer" and "Fixer," with its stunning trombone solo.
They recorded four albums: Benny Gallagher and Graham Lyle, Willie and the Lapdog, Seeds and The Last Cowboy, again under the auspices of Glyn Johns. Tracks still to be released on CD are the B-sides "Golden Boy", "Sunny Side Up" and "Take the Money and Run", as well as 1980's non-album A-side "Living On The Breadline". Miscellaneous Discography. 1970 – McGuinness Flint. 1971 – Happy Birthday, Ruthy Baby. 1973 – Rainbow Gallagher and Lyle left towards the end of 1971 to record as a duo, and would enjoy major success in 1976 with their hit-laden fifth album Breakaway. McGuinness Flint would continue to play some of their compositions in live performances. After several temporary members came and went, including comedian Neil Innes on piano, the group then recruited bassist Dixie Dean.
