Kript s Ken Karter is the latest artist to feature on the Stroboscopic offshoot project, and he follows the same path as all of the other producers who have contributed thus far. MX 0. 1 starts the release with grey shapes drifting over a dissected rhythm. 1 has slightly more structure, centring on a stepping groove, but it only feels like a taster for what s to follow. 1 is an incredibly powerful piece of music, underpinned by dense broken beats and shot through with the sound of the wind howling through a deserted house.

Ken Karter's breakout release for Stroboscopic Artefacts is Monad XXI, and this in itself is a kind of happy coincidence: this is very much the sound of the 21st century, full of anticipatory tension and darkness, but also a great deal of rushing excitement related to new discoveries. Altogether, these pieces have an effect not unlike navigating through Tokyo on a rainy night: a profound feeling of natural and chaotic processes finding a way to reassert themselves within even the most well-choregraphed technological drama.

Ken Karter ­- Monad XXI Stroboscopic Artefacts' Monad series has made a point of steering things away from the beaten path. For some of its murkier artists-inclduing Our Circula Sound's Positive Centre and Zeitgeber, the union of label chief Lucy and Speedy J-it has provided a springboard to delve deeper into techno's recesses. Others have seized the opportunity to be liberal with their ideas about sound and form, without straying too far away from the dance floor.
