Music video by The Beatles performing Strawberry Fields Forever.
Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band’, we take a look back to its recording sessions, during which history was made and the psychedelic rock hits ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ and ‘Penny Lane’ were created. Originally intended for inclusion on the album, The Beatles instead decided to release the hits as a double a-side single in February 1967. The songs are a collection of the Fab Four’s childhood memories and a nostalgic look back to their past, growing up in their hometown of Liverpool. Following the creation of these Lennon-McCartney hits came the UK release of perhaps their finest single of all, the double a-side ‘Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane’ on 17th February 1967. It climbed to number 2 on the UK charts, breaking the band's four-year run of chart-topping singles, and spent 11 weeks there.
Strawberry Fields Forever was originally intended to appear on the band’s seminal Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album, but was instead released the same year (1967) as a double-A side with Paul McCartney’s Penny Lane. George Martin has publicly stated that taking both Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever off of Sgt. Pepper’s was the biggest mistake of his career. Both songs are named after sites in Liverpool and are steeped in childhood and English nostalgia.

Strawberry Fields Forever" is the name of a US fan club that publishes a popular Beatles magazine. Cyndi Lauper performed this at the Strawberry Fields memorial in Central Park as part of the 2001 special Come Together: A Night For John Lennon's Words And Music. Proceeds from the show went to victims of the September 11 attacks on America. It turns out Strawberry Fields is not forever
Penny Lane" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles that was released in February 1967 as a double A-side single with "Strawberry Fields Forever". The lyrics refer to Penny Lane, a street in Liverpool, and make mention of the sights and characters that McCartney recalled from his upbringing in the city.
Strawberry Fields Forever" was intended for the album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967), as it was the first song recorded for it, but was instead released in February 1967 as a double A-side single with Paul McCartney's "Penny Lane". Strawberry Fields Forever" reached number eight in the United States, with numerous critics describing it as one of the group's best recordings. It is one of the defining works of the psychedelic rock genre and has been covered by many artists
Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields Forever entered the charts on 23 February 1967, and climbed to number two. It was held off by Engelbert Humperdinck's Release Me, and spent 11 weeks on the charts. The failure to reach the top was because many chart compilers counted the double a-side as two individual releases; it did, in fact, outsell Release Me by nearly two to one. It was pretty bad, wasn't it, that Engelbert Humperdinck stopped Strawberry Fields Forever from getting to number one? But I don't think it was a worry. The only reason that Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane didn't go onto the new album was a feeling that if we issued a single, it shouldn't go onto an album. That was a crazy idea, and I'm afraid I was partly responsible. It's nonsense these days, but in those days it was an aspect that we'd try to give the public value for money.
Unlike McCartney's Penny Lane, in Strawberry Fields Forever, Lennon doesn't convey any detail about the place or events there. Instead, he provides a rather dreamy, ethereal and emotional perspective. Strawberry Fields Forever was inspired by John Lennon's memories of playing in the garden of Strawberry Field, a Salvation Army children's home near Woolton, a suburb of Liverpool. Strawberry Field Salvation Army Children's home in 1936. John Lennon spent most of his childhood in the care of his Aunt Mimi who became his guardian.
