One 1991 release that certainly didn't deserve to be neglected was Transvision Vamp's Little Magnets Vs. The Bubble of Babble, an eccentric and quirky effort drawing on both early-'80s new wave and '60s rock. The album may have been a victim of bad timing - in the early '90s, corporate rockers like Poison, Bon Jovi and Warrant still reigned supreme, and major labels weren't rushing to sign and aggressively promote every alternative band they could get their hands on. Perhaps a few years later, it would have enjoyed the attention it deserved.

Transvision Vamp were a genuine International Pop Supernova of the late eighties. Fronted by the irrepressible Wendy James – Pop’s very own Halo Jones – whose bad-girl charms were impossible to ignore, and informed by the musical vision of Nick Christian Sayer, their sound and look was a kaleidoscopic whirl of chunky guitar riffs, incandescent pop thrills, razor sharp choral hooks, and vivid comic-book imagery. Both singles – (I Just Wanna) B With U and If Looks Could Kill – from the third album Little Magnets Vs The Bubble Of Babble reached the Top 40 in 1991, but curiously the UK arm of MCA Records decided against releasing the album in the UK. It saw moderate success in Australia, New Zealand and Sweden, but this release is the first time it has been issued individually in the UK. The band broke up in 1992. The album is presented on 180 gram blue vinyl.

Unfortunately, reality had other plans and Transvision Vamp’s third album released in 1991 did none of these things: if anything it had the opposite effect, causing the band to split up far earlier than they had anticipated. Little Magnet. wasn’t even released in their (and my) home country, the UK and only managed to see the light of day elsewhere due to a few contractual loop holes. One 1991 release that certainly didn't deserve to be neglected was Transvision Vamp's Little Magnets Vs. Though the group sometimes inspires comparisons to outfits like the Divinyls and Siousxie & the Banshees, this obscure band has a sound and a vision all its own.
