Loftus, who has declared her first musical influence to be Nina Simone, judiciously allows her training and performances as an actor to enhance her singing. Mostly, however, her clear voice, which she sometimes uses in a deliberate and skilful bluesy manner, is well suited to the needs of a jazz singer. She is also a composer and lyricist of merit. By the time of her second album, this singer’s fast-growing talent was proving to be a valued asset to the London jazz scene.
