Its hard to know what to expect from an Eddie Harris album as he is been known to play everything from pop to avant-garde. On some albums he will present his unique take on a certain genre only to cast that style aside for his next album. Such is the case on Come on Down where Harris and his crew explore the world of hippie style long winded soul/rock jams, and also throw in some very Harris styled exotic numbers as well

Eddie Harris Goes To The Movies. The Lost Album Plus The Better Half. The Best of Eddie Harris. The Eddie Harris Piano Classics consists of 24 Eddie Harris compositions, for the moderately skilled player, that have been arranged for solo piano by David Berger. The arrangements of the compositions consist of three staves. The top stave is a lead sheet of each compositions as to exactly how Eddie played it. The bottom two staves consist of a piano arrangement that present the essence of the groove and harmonic sense of each composition. The compositions are written to provide the rhythmic pulse and harmonies using just the piano since all 24 compositions were originally recorded with full.

Why Don't You Quit (6:49). The album title and the weird cover portrait of Eddie Harris with an orange substituting for his head refer to the recording locale - Miami. The rationale might have been to give Miami the same down-home soul appeal that Muscle Shoals and Memphis were enjoying at the time.

Listen to this link to the Eddie Harris instrumental "Why Don't You Quit" from 1970- love it: Compare to the later Hot Chocolate "You Could Have Been A Lady" from 1971 Same, plus lyrics, though not credited to Harris? Same pattern and melody to the tee.
