Almusic's Jon O'Brien noted that Furler's "hushed, intimate vocals are surrounded by acoustic folk-tinged electronica". Pitchfork's Chris Ott found the album's "downtempo kaleidoscope of pain and progress is unable to hold on to all that it reaches for, but delivers moments of brilliance and daring".
Colour the Small One is Sia’s third studio album, released on January 19, 2004 in UK and February 3, 2004 in the United States. It was produced by Jimmy Hogarth, and charted at on the Billboard US Top Heatseekers chart. Unhappy with the lack of success that her previous studio album, Healing Is Difficult, received, Sia fired her manager and left Sony Music. She then signed with Go! Beat Records. Don’t Bring Me Down was chosen as the lead single, but failed to chart. However, the next three singles, (Breathe Me, Where I Belong, & Sunday) managed to chart. In 2005, Breathe Me was used.
The Small One is a studio album of Deccalite phonograph records by Bing Crosby of a Charles Tazewell story. It was produced and directed by Paramount Pictures producer Robert Welch with musical accompaniment from Victor Young and His Orchestra. The Small One," one of the most touching of all Christmas stories, was first produced in 1939 on the Kate Smith radio show by Robert Welch, who later became a Paramount producer.
Sia Kate Isobelle Furler's lengthy full name inevitably calls Dido to mind - so it's scant surprise to find that she practises a similar strain of nice-girl blood-letting. In fact, Sia's first hit (a one-off top 10 in 2000) preceded Dido's debut, so it's anyone's guess why she's not the one breathily counting her dosh at the top of the charts. At her most ruminative, you would never even know she's Australian (her father played in Men at Work). Once past the opening clutch of small, grasping ballads, which all the electro-spaciness at the producer's disposal can't make cool, Colour the Small One unfurls into an unexpectedly endearing thing. Her melodramatic premise, that love will kill you if you let it, receives elegiac treatment on The Church of What's Happening Now, and a jazzed-up spaciousness on Where I Belong. This could be the soundtrack to some of the new year's mopiest moments.
