Orquesta Tipica Victor - RCA Victor 100 Años This surprisingly well-recorded CD contains a classic set of intrumental tracks with strong rhythms for dancing. Adolfo Carabelli was the leader and pianist of Orquesta Tipica Victor. He later led a studio orchestra indentified by his own name. Adolfo Carabelli - Cuatro Palabras (El Bandoneon EBCD 87) This CD contains fantastic vocal music with great rhythm for dancing. His music is played often at milongas in Buenos Aires, and the instrumentals are the classic harder rhythmic tangos with a strong staccato dance rhythm. He also recorded many great milongas and fast valses. Hector Varela - Instrumentales (EMI Reliquias) Hector Varela was the first bandoneonist in Juan D' Arienzo's orchestra for many years. He later led a popular transition era orchestra that retained elements of D' Arienzo's dance beat while taking on a spacious concert sound somewhat reminiscent of Di Sarli.

Orquesta Típica Andariega. and Robert knows it!!!
uis Adolfo Sierra says in his book Historia de la Orquesta Típica: Roberto Firpo and Francisco Canaro monopolized the public interest, precisely at the time when the instrumental arrangement of the tango orchestra was definitively structured. And he adds: The interpretive ways of one and the other presented a noticeable contrast. Firpo overtly evolved towards a melodic trend with unhurried beat, paying careful attention to nuances and conveying a certain atmosphere of compact sonority, though perfectly suitable for dancing. Thereafter he was hired by the Armenonville cabaret of Buenos Aires and put together another group which he called the Rondalla Criolla Roberto Firpo, later named Típica Criolla Instrumental, but many knew it as the Orquesta Armenonville. He recorded for the Atlanta label and soon thereafter he switched to the Odeon label. It included Tito Roccatagliata, Agesilao Ferrazzano, later Cayetano Puglisi (violins), Alejandro Michetti (flute), Firpo (piano).
Perhaps his most important legacy, however, was as a composer of some of the greatest tangos of all time. This tanda features four of those masterpieces (‘Amurado’ was co-written by Maffia and Laurenz). So I’ve decided to play a mixed tanda combining Milonga de los fortines with Lomuto’s Qué tiempo aquel and De Caro’s No hay tierra como la mía. The tangos that Osvaldo Fresedo recorded with vocalist Héctor Pacheco are almost never played in milongas. And on the sites featuring tanda collections that I sometimes consult, I could find only one Fresedo/Pacheco tanda, by DJ Goran. As Goran notes, these tangos are Very dreamy and romantic, ideal for a dimly lit milonga, near the end of the evening. The four tangos I chose for this set are especially laconic and contemplative.
Orquesta típica, or simply a típica, is a Latin-American term for a band which plays popular music. The details vary from country to country. In Argentina & Uruguay, the term orquesta típica is associated with tango music
Old Guard - Orquesta Típica Victor, Carabelli, Lomuto, Fresedo. The tangos of the old guard generally had less complex arrangements and simpler rhythms in comparison to tangos played during golden age and later eras. These tandas can be used sparingly in early in the evening when simple rhythms will help the dancers find the beat of the music. Carlos Di Sarli developed clean sounding arrangements, and his orchestra played the walking beat of salon tango that epitomizes golden age smooth. His music helps educate dancers to the rhythm of salon-style tango and is useful early in the evening or whenever the DJ thinks the dancers need a refreshing change of pace or help in finding the rhythm. It is also useful in the resolution to the evening's dancing. Orquesta Color Tango – Ilusión de Mi Vida – from Con Estilo para Bailar (Techno Disc) Héctor Varela – Palomita Blanca – from Buenos Aires de Noche (EMI compilation) Lalo Schifrin Orquesta – Corazón de Oro – from Tango, movie soundtrack Osvaldo Pugliese – Desde el Alma – from Ausencia (EMI).
