The Modern Lovers is the debut studio album by American rock band the Modern Lovers. It was released on Beserkley Records in 1976, although the original nine tracks had been recorded in 1972 (or 1971 in the case of "Hospital"). Six of the original tracks were produced by John Cale. In 2003, the album was ranked number 381 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

However problems with their label blocked the songs' release until 1976. Among the Modern Lovers playing on this song were keyboard player Jerry Harrison who later joined Talking Heads and drummer David Robinson, who later joined The Cars. Route 128 (designated as the Yankee Division Highway ) is a state highway in the . state of Massachusetts, maintained by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). Spanning 57 miles (92 km), it is one of two beltways (the other being Interstate 495 ) around Boston, and is known as the "inner" beltway, especially around areas where it is 15 miles (25 km) or less outside of Boston There were plans to remove Route 128 from the section concurrent with I-95, but those plans were aborted due to local opposition.

The roots of the Modern Lovers lie just off Route 9 in Natick, Massachusetts. It was in this quiet suburban town that two teenage neighbors named Jonathan Richman and John Felice got together to start their own band in the summer of 1970. Felice told Trouser Press that he'd begun playing guitar at age 13: "That was a couple of years before I joined the Modern Lovers. He (Richman) took off to New York, then to Europe and spent some time there, and when he came back he wanted to start the band up in Boston

Route 128 was opened in 1951, and is also known as the Yankee Division Highway. It runs from Canton on the South Shore up here to Gloucester. Route 128, and what it represents, is an important element in Roadrunner. I take in Route 128, the Mass Pike, Route 3, from R9 I loop down to R495, down towards Quincy, I head out to Cohasset, to the rocks. And as I spiral about the snowy landscape I feel like a skater, pirouetting across the ice. I drive for hours.
