Little Dorrit is a novel by Charles Dickens, originally published in serial form between 1855 and 1857. The story features Amy Dorrit, youngest child of her family, born and raised in the Marshalsea prison for debtors in London. Arthur Clennam encounters her after returning home from a 20-year absence, ready to begin his life anew.

The 1987 filming of Charles Dickens's "Little Dorrit" used Giuseppe Verdi's themes and music, beautifully arranged and conducted by Michel Sanvoisin. This extremely lengthy film version was divided into two parts. The first was titled "Nobody's Fault" and includes the music in Part 1 of 2. The second was titled "Little Dorrit" and includes the music in Part 2 of 2. The movie starred Derek Jacobi, Alec Guinness, Cyril Cusack, and many of Britain's great character actors.

Judged Dickens's worst novel by many nineteenth-century critics, Little Dorrit has been reevaluated in the second half of the twentieth century and is today considered a masterpiece by many scholars who praise its criticism of the modern world's corrupt social and political institutions.
