Barbara Hendricks (born November 20, 1948) is an American operatic soprano and concert singer. Hendricks has lived in Europe since 1977, and in Switzerland in Basel since 1985. She is a citizen of Sweden following her marriage to a Swedish citizen. Hendricks was born in Stephens, Arkansas. Growing up, she sang and took voice lessons and was often asked to sing solos

Barbara Hendricks is stately, regal and exotic in the role of the Queen of Sheba. Her performance of "Will the Sun Forget to Streak" is a gem. Not only is the aria truly gorgeous, but Hendricks' delivery is straightforward and her diction is incredibly clear and precise. But it was Barbara Hendricks, as the Queen of Sheba, who gave one of her greatest performances ever, indeed one for the ages! This impels me to mention the Maulbronn 'Solomon' under the direction of Jurgen Budday with Michael Chance as Solomon. This is an excellent performance of Handel's finest oratorio. The most casual listener will be overwhelmed by the sheer power of this masterpiece. The choruses are truly the most magnificent and awe inspiring that Handel has to offer.
