Involution is an album by t Michael Marcus, with the Jaki Byard trio. This was Marcus's third album for Justin Time Records. The album was recorded in 1998. The tracks are a mix of Marcus originals and standards that are played relatively infrequently. Marcus plays a variety of saxophones: the stritch (a form of soprano), saxello (a straight alto), and a straight tenor. The album was released by Justin Time on March 30, 1998.

Sam Rivers ‎– Involution. Label: Blue Note ‎– BN-LA453-H2. Series: The Blue Note Re-Issue Series –. Format: 2 Vinyl, LP, Album, Gatefold. Tenor Saxophone – Sam Rivers. Trombone – Julian Priester (tracks: A1 to B3). Trumpet – Donald Byrd (tracks: A1 to B3). Notes. Two previously unreleased sessions by one of the most mature and original saxophonists in contemporary jazz. Sides One and Two recorded in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on March 17, 1967. Sides Three and Four recorded in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on March 7, 1966.

While that set has six of Hill's provocative originals, the other album (which teams Rivers with altoist James Spaulding, trumpeter Donald Byrd, trombonist Julian Priester, bassist Cecil McBee, and drummer Steve Ellington) features six of the tenor saxophonist's compositions. These very adventurous performances (some of Blue Note's finest avant-garde dates) are often intense and always adventurous. This stimulating music ranks with Sam Rivers' most significant recordings.

i got this with sides 1 and 4 (or A and D) on vinyl one, and sides 2 and 3 on the second vinyl - it's even noted in this way in catalog- number in the wax. just a mispressing or regular pressed like this?
Thomand
In the 70s, many double albums were pressed that way. It made the records easier to cue for radio. Sides 1 and 2 could be cued to play consecutively, then during station break at the top of the hour, you could flip side 2 and play side 3, meanwhile cue side 4 to play immediately following. Some DJ's would play an hour of uninterrupted music at a time (2 sides of an album).

Don't know if it's worth replying on this late date, but mine's the same.
Terr
Mine is the same. A little annoying, given sides 1 & 2 are one group and 3 & 4 are another, but the music is good enough that I don't really mind.
