Phosphorescent is the stage name of American singer-songwriter Matthew Houck (born July 27, 1980). Originally from Huntsville, Alabama, Houck began recording and performing under this nickname in 2001 in Athens, Georgia. He is currently based in Nashville, Tennessee. Before recording under the name Phosphorescent, Matthew Houck traveled the world playing under the name Fillup Shack and self-released a limited pressing of the album Hipolit in 2000

But on C’est La Vie-the first Phosphorescent studio album in a half-decade and since Houck left Brooklyn for fatherhood in Nashville-his voice cuts through inventive settings with a confidence, clarity, and sensibility that can vividly and unexpectedly recall 1980s Paul Simon, minus the global beats and entitled boomerness. New Birth in New England bounces irresistibly, not too far removed from Vampire Weekend, either, but counterbalanced by Ricky Ray Jackson’s luminous pedal steel

Oh, and somewhere along the way, he nearly died of meningitis

Notes

Record 3 is labeled "Promotional Copy Only Not For Resale" on vinyl itself. Cover does not mention this.

Back of the cover says:
"The ability to glow in the dark. Luminous incandescent shining fluorescent brilliance..... These synthe-sizzlers are rungs on the ladder of consciousness, taking us upwards on a spiral thermal rush of pleasure. This time our digital heroes, in their pursuit of the absolute, have drenched us sonically with their psychotropic juice - grinding, growling, throbbing, brain suckers of psychedelicious dance musik. This de-coded disc is our passport to strange bizarre worlds and imaginal realms of living, modulating, aural geometry.

Let`s cruise together in Shpongleland, melting the reality blockers, flowing with the chaos on a one way ticket to infinity and back. From the caveman to the raveman, fresh as a dream, the atipical trippy tippy triptamine toons are tip top. Pierce the membrane, bathe in the light.....
Love and Smiles

The TIP Crew"

Cover glows in the dark.

Track A "Psychopod" is the track this compilation is worth having for. It is the absolute goa-psychedelik flipout undercover-overdrive frenzy that will make you forget your legs and feet while your brain is doing joyful flic-flacs...dancing is the real drug! We know X-Dream's and Hallucinogen's tracks for good but the Lysurgeon's Warning really has that pinch of psychedelic more than the original (which nevertheless will ever be the original). Many of these tracks were/are available on 12"'s or other compilations (like e.g. "Sunrise" by "The Antidote" aka "Total Eclipse" which is almost long enough to be played as a perfect soundtrack for the "real" sunrise at your outdoor party). The tracks that aren't available anywhere else (B2, D2, F1) are all excellent.
