Jim Hall - Youkali album flac

Guitarist Jim Hall gets the late-period Creed Taylor CTI treatment on the generally rewarding Youkali set. Extensive overdubbing was used so Chet Baker (who died in 1988) magically appears on three of the six selections. Also teamed with Hall on some numbers are Grover Washington, Jr. (on soprano and tenor), Donald Harrison on soprano, the wordless vocals of Carmen Cuesta (on "Youkali"), a brass section, and various other instruments arranged by Jim Pugh and Don Sebesky. Through it all, Hall plays quite tastefully as usual

This is a real mishmash. In1982,CTI released a 4 track album under the joint leadership of Chet Baker, Hubert Laws and Jim Hall, "StudioTrieste. Glossy, nice enough, it apparently took several sessions to record enough for the brief LP (and the 3 main players weren't on all the tracks). Cut to 10 years later, CTI was having one of its periodic revivals, and here we have this studio-trickery reworking of 3 of the 4 "Studio Trieste" numbers with a new rhythm section, some new soloists (Grover Washington,Jr.
