British songstress Ruby Turner showed her range and power on this collection of Motown classics. Unfortunately, she didn't get the attention she deserved or the praises she merited for her wondrous, soulful interpretations. But the gospel-tinged stylist turned in a standout performance, and showed that it was possible to bring fresh life to shopworn classics. Sadly, this has now been deleted.
Covering the classic material made famous during the Motown era is something that countless artists have attempted over the years. For some artists (notably Michael McDonald), it can be a beautiful thing. For some others, including Ruby Turner, sticking to your own material might be a better idea
