Ukraine Calling" - Haydamaky. The music of Haydamaky is inspired by various ethnic sounds from around the world, especially from various regions of Ukraine. The band calls their music Carpathian Ska. Haydamaky’s hope is to forge an inherently Ukrainian popular music style, which looks back on its own heritage and traditions as a source for inspiration. Their self-titled debut album was released in January 2002. The second album Boguslav (released in April 2004) developed into a very eclectic mix of ska, dub, reggae, punk and, of course, Ukrainian melodies. The band had finally found their very own style.

Haydamaky (Ukrainian: Гайдамаки) is a Ukrainian folk rock band formed in 1991. The music of Haydamaky is inspired by various ethnic music from around the world, especially from various regions of Ukraine, such as Polesia, Bukovina, and Transcarpathia. Other influences include the Romanian folklore, punk music sound of Shane MacGowan and by the reggae of such bands like Burning Spear and Black Uhuru. The name refers to haidamakas, 18th century Ukrainian paramilitary and rebels.

Haydamaky are the present day disciples of the Ukrainian cult of tradition. Through their spiritual and musical integrity, they are committed to the cause of taking back their culture from out of the hands of corrupt, immoral mentality. Haydamaky began their career in 1991, shortly after Ukraine declared its independence from the Soviet Union.

The album Pisni Mertvoho Pivnya is based on the Andrukhovych's poetry collection of the same name. In 2009 their song "Kiss" ("Potsilunok") was featured in the a soundtrack of Cold Souls, an American film directed by Sophie Barthes. Vopli Vidopliasova (Ukrainian: Воплі Відоплясова) was formed in 1986 in Kiev. Haydamaky have recently performed at many club venues across Europe, including as a special guest at a concert of Asian Dub Foundation in Bratislava, Slovakia. Other club appearances this year were held in Germany, Estonia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Moscow. Okean Elzy (Ukrainian: Океан Ельзи, translation: Elza's Ocean) is one of the most successful and popular Ukrainian bands. It was formed in 1994 in Lviv, Ukraine. The band's vocalist and frontman is Svyatoslav Vakarchuk.
