After The Jam broke-up in 1982, Foxton pursued a brief solo career and released the studio album, Touch Sensitive, in 1984. He had minor UK hits in 1983 and 1984 with the singles "Freak", "This Is the Way" and "It Makes Me Wonder", and played in several bands, including Sharp with former Jam member Rick Buckler, before joining Stiff Little Fingers. On 5 May 2009, Foxton attended the funeral of Paul Weller's father John, who had been instrumental in The Jam's success. Foxton played bass and contributed backing vocals on the songs "Fast Car/Slow Traffic" and "She Speaks" included on Weller's solo album, Wake Up the Nation, released in April 2010. Looking back on their breakup, the Jam bassist Bruce Foxton says he and Paul Weller may be friends again, but a full reunion is unlikely (for now). This photograph shows Rick Buckler, Paul Weller and me immediately afterthe last show the Jam ever played, in Brighton in 1982. It was a great gig, so we were all fired up from having just played better than ever, but creeping in was the realisation of just what was ending. In a way, when he came out with the Style Council I was pleased because it provided us with something of an answer. They sounded very different from the Jam, and went in a musical direction that Rick and I probably wouldn’t have been on board with anyway. Over the years I hadn’t picked up a lot of contact numbers in the industry, perhaps because I never thought I’d need them, so I had very few people to call on.

After The Jam broke up, Foxton recorded a solo album Touch Sensitive and had some limited success on the singles charts, but eventually joined Irish punk rockers Stiff Little Fingers in 1992, with whom he played until 2007. Foxton was also a member of The Casbah Club from 2004 to 2008, with Simon Townshend (brother of Pete Townshend of The Who) and former Big Country members Mark Brzezicki and Bruce Watson
