Trevor Horn Reimagines The Eighties - New CD Album - Released 25/01/2019.

Ludwig van Beethoven composed his Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61, in 1806. Its first performance by Franz Clement was unsuccessful and for some decades the work languished in obscurity, until revived in 1844 by Joseph Joachim. Since then it has become one of the best-known violin concertos. Beethoven had previously written a number of pieces for violin and orchestra.

Wolfgang Schneiderhan (violin); Berlin Phil/Eugen Jochum; David Oistrakh; RPO/Eugene Goosens. Ludwig van Beethoven. A dazzling duo exude mystery and intensity in Beethoven cello works. Alexei Grynyuk handles his part with delicacy and flexibility, and his articulation throughout this recording is pellucid even at top speed'.

Beethoven: Violin Concerto; Romances 1 & 2. Import. 61, this 1962 recording of Wolfgang Schneiderhan on violin, and with Eugen Jochum conducting Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, continues to sound great and is one of the few that have consistently been at the top of critics recommendations for many years. I have had this disc myself since purchasing it originally in about 1993 - Gramophone magazine, in their annual The Good CD Guide 1992 had listed this recording, along with Itzhak Perlman's performance, with Carlo Maria Giulini conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra, which I also own, as their top recommendations for this work.
