Though Oingo Boingo was renowned for its high-energy concerts, Boingo Alive wasn't recorded at a club or in an arena. Instead, it was recorded without an audience at the Power Plant Rehearsal Studio in North Hollywood, Calif. While some fans might say that this greatest-hits set lacks the fervency caused by a live audience, the band’s definition of live has more to do with how the songs were played than who was watching. These performances have no overdubs and no postproduction effects

While I guess technically this is a live album, it seems to live at the very edge of that definition. One thing you might notice when listening to this, there is no crowd noise whatsoever. If you read the liner notes you will discover that the album was recorded in a rehearsal studio, not at a true live performance. Despite the lack of an audience, the performances are amazingly good.
Oingo Boingo /ˈɔɪŋɡoʊ ˈbɔɪŋɡoʊ/ was an American new wave band, formed by songwriter Danny Elfman in 1979. Oingo Boingo emerged from a surrealist performance art theatrical troupe, The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, founded in 1972 and led by Danny Elfman's brother Richard Elfman. Oingo Boingo were known for their high energy live concerts and experimental music, which can be described as mixing rock, ska, pop and world music.
