The Last Resort is the debut album by the Danish electronic musician Trentemøller. It was released on 9 October 2006. The album debuted at on the Danish Albums Chart. In Denmark, The Last Resort was certified platinum in October 2009 for sales over 30,000 copies, a rare feat for an electronic music album.

The 13 instrumental tracks together form a wordless musical story, almost like the soundtrack of a movie. It manages to capture a whole range.

The Very Last Resort is another dubby monster that has a very Youth bass sound and interesting Ennio Moricone on mushrooms feeling from the middle towards the end. Fantastic sound work here. Snowflake starts with some more dubby basslines and develops into something rather weird and confusing musically. A bit of a filler in my humble opinion. Chameleon is a track that AFAIK was already released and it's a typical Trentemoller dancefloor killer with jazzy percussion and quirky fat house beats.

Not that the Danish mixer is above contrasts, as in "Evil Dub," where he allows down-tuned and distorted guitars to run like the proverbial bull in a china shop of elegant, understated programming. The Last Resort is one of electronic music's greatest albums and is in fact my favourite album as well. For those who wish to explore the darker side of electronica or rather the eerie atmosphere of the mind, then The Last Resort is a necessity. If one would rather wish to relax then again the album will match the criteria without question. A startlingly beautiful album, full of strange and yet compelling music.

The Last Resort 's closest 2006 equivalent, strangely enough, is probably Thom Yorke's The Eraser, another album that takes affect as both start- and end-point. If anything, Trentemøller's record is fuller than Yorke's- more cohesive, "better" produced- though shuttling back and forth between the two, I find the idiosyncracies of Yorke's songwriting (and Godrich's production) more compelling than Trentemøller's.

Subsequently, Trentemøller follows up with his debutalbum on Poker Flat, "The Last Resort" - a beautifully crafted, astonishing masterpiece, that will leave you breathless. It manages to capture a whole range of emotions in subtle melodic miniatures, dreamy ambiences, dusty beats, deep dub-tracks and driving groove-excursions. It may come as a surprise that on "The Last Resort" Trentemøller moves away from the dancefloor and instead produces an introspective album that’s especially great for homelistening (or listening in the car, or on your i-Pod). But hey, from his first release on Audiomatique ("Physical Fraction" from January 2005) we knew the young producer from Copenhagen was able to fuse great melodies and chord progressions with subtle, yet driving beats.

The album itself is a 13-track collection of new production work, much of it more ambient and atmospheric than the Danish techno DJ/producer's prior releases.
