John Beltran has been producing ambient electronica music since the early 90's. He first built his street cred with his Techno dance single "Aquatic" for Carl Craig's label Retroactive in Detroit. In the mid 90's he would move on to record two seminal records in the ambient techno scene. Such a lovey and playful record. Each song is a craft, far removed from the loop finding play by numbers "electronic" music that floods the marketplace. Emotive and cinematic are excellent adjectives to describe the music on this record. Great work and perfect for many occasion.

It's wonderful having John's Beltrans' sound such a good memory. That's what his music to me. Futuristic but meloncholly. Memories of beautiful melodies. I first came across John's Collage Dreams back in 1997 while at school at the time. Fast forward 15 years...here he really brings back the Ten Days of Blue feel. Maybe because he was putting together his best of during the past year or so. What took you so Long reminds exactly of Soft Summer on TDOB. But nobody is complaining because it's great. Beauty of Life might be the underdog track of the 12". Reminds me of the eerie vibe in Mobility by an early Moby. John's really taking it back with this old school production. The melody is playful and hits home like as if John was constructing with Carl Craig. Deep sub bass to give this one of the most well balanced and detailed as John has done perhaps. While John's full length albums tend to not have the best mastering, here, it's right on. Mostly because of the wonderful cut of the normally light and tinny sounding usual clear vinyl. The main track on here plays at 45 and is pressed loudly. Make sure you turn the mids down so you can not be annoyed. Or really, distracted. This song is too nice for me. He's done better. Either way, the B-side is worth writing about. I'm glad to relive the past through the present.
