The Battle of Horseshoe Bend (also known as Tohopeka, Cholocco Litabixbee, or The Horseshoe), was fought during the War of 1812 in the Mississippi Territory, now central Alabama. On March 27, 1814, United States forces and Indian allies under Major General Andrew Jackson defeated the Red Sticks, a part of the Creek Indian tribe who opposed American expansion, effectively ending the Creek War.
Horseshoe Bend is a natural wonder that is taking over the world. Its a naturally-occurring horseshoe-shaped curve of red rock around the Colorado River in Page, Arizona. Of course I had to go there. Yes, it’s cool to see the red rock canyon and the blue-green river water bend around a canyon wall, but, unfortunately, it feels like everyone in the world agrees

That being the case, you might spend some extra time at Horseshoe Bend getting great shots. You could reasonably leave at 7:30 and be back in Page by 9:30. Actually, the rising sun should illuminate the rock walls of Horseshoe Bend with the morning light. You should be getting great shots as the sun will rise in the East and you will be facing West. I might opt for getting there even earlier since you will arise early due to the 3 hour tiime difference. Report inappropriate content.
Battle of Horseshoe Bend (1832). The Battle of Horseshoe Bend, also referred to as the Battle of Pecatonica and the Battle of Bloody Lake, was fought on June 16, 1832 in present-day Wisconsin at an oxbow lake known as "Horseshoe Bend", which was formed by a change in course of the Pecatonica River. The battle was a major turning point in the Black Hawk War, despite being of only minor military significance. The small victory won by the .
The Red Sticks at Horseshoe Bend were led by the respected war leader Menawa. The previous December, he had moved the inhabitants of six Upper Creek villages to the bend and built a fortified town. While a village was constructed at the southern toe of the bend, a fortified log wall was built across the neck for protection. Dubbing the encampment Tohopeka, Menawa hoped that the wall would hold off attackers or at least delay them long enough for the 350 women and children in the camp to escape across the river. To defend Tohopeka, he had around 1,000 warriors of which around a third possessed.
Long before the Battle of Horseshoe Bend, the Creeks (also known as Muskogee) people lived in a loose confederation of towns along the rivers of west-central Georgia and east-central Alabama. Anglo-American settlers divided the Creek towns geographically into two groups: the Lower Towns along the Chattahoochee, Flint, and Ocmulgee Rivers; and the Upper Towns along the Tallapoosa, Coosa, and Alabama Rivers. He intended to attack a Red Stick refuge and defensive position in the Horseshoe Bend of the Tallapoosa River. On March 26, Jackson's army camped six miles northwest of Horseshoe Bend. Menawa, a respected war leader from the town of Okfuskee, waited at the bend with 1,000 Red Stick warriors and at least 350 women and children.
