Yawning Man, who hail from the arid desert area of Southern California, have been playing, jamming, and recording since 1986, and are a highly influential band. Most of their fans and those heavily influenced by them consider them to be 'the originators' of the entire Desert Rock movement/genre, and their influence has reigned far and wide across the globe.

And the roots of these spacious and trippy jams can be traced back to a specific band, Yawning Man. While not well-known outside of the area, Yawning Man is often listed as an important early influence on the aforementioned bands/artists. And although the group never got around to issuing any recordings during their first go-round in the late '80s, come the early 21st century, original members Gary Arce (guitar), Mario Lalli (bass), and Alfredo Hernandez (drums) resuscitated Yawning Man, and began finally issuing albums.

Yawning Man is an American experimental rock band from La Quinta, California, United States. The band originally formed in 1986, although they released no studio recordings until 2005. They have been noted to be one of the first influential bands in the desert rock scene. Yawning Man was formed in 1986, founded by members Gary Arce, Alfredo Hernández, Mario Lalli, and Larry Lalli. At this time, the band started to play marathon jams from the garage to the desert.
