Okura was born in 1966 in Tokyo, Japan. He uses alto saxophone, bass clarinet and tubes in his work both as a solo artist and as a collaborator with other artists of improvised music.

Trio by Mitsuhiro Yoshimura, Masahiko Okura, released 03 November 2008 1. Duo 2. Solo(s) Although this CD is the live recording of a duo concert of Masahiko Okura and myself, I feel that these recorded performances are like two solo sets. However, at the same time, the coincidence factors intruded on these performances deeply and surely influenced in some way so that we can also say this is a trio performance CD. Of course, a title (here, of the music) doesn’t explain the work of art, and also vice versa. One of them is not subject to the other

Masahiko Okura (大蔵雅彦, born 1966 Tokyo) plays alto sax. He started performing in public venues around Tokyo in 1994, after joining the techno-noise band Dub Sonic Warrior. The other members of the group were Dub Sonic (machines and effects), and Shunichiro "Mittaco" Mimura (guitar). Okura left the band in 1997. At about the same time he also formed the band Sun King with Tadahiko Kanai (sax), Takashi Takeoka (bass) and Tadashi Matsumoto (drums).

Over the past few years, alto sax player Masahiko Okura has led an astonishingly full and varied musical life. Okura has released three CDs with Gnu and two with Bject. Time Service is his very first solo album. None of its six tracks contain the slightest trace of Gnu's pop sensibility. This is a highly abstract work that brings out the subtle tones and resonance of the alto sax, bass clarinet, and tube, and illuminates Okura's unique musicianship.
