There are moments of florid, overly sentimental chamber music (and Komeda's envisioning of what French salon music must have been like), Dixieland jazz, and light classical flourishes that echo the late Romantic period, but all the cues are short. The first film, Smarkula, comprises 28 of the CD's 55 tracks. This is Komeda at his most restrained, and not particularly interesting. The soundtracks for Przerwany Lot and Perly I Dukaty are slightly more compelling, but not enough to warrant anything more than a casual listen. There are no moments of deeply swinging jazz or compositional.

Krzysztof Komeda: Polish film music composer and jazz pianist. Perhaps best known for his work in film scores, Komeda wrote the scores for Roman Polanski’s films Knife in the Water, Cul-de-sac, The Fearless Vampire Killers, and Rosemary’s Baby. Komeda's album Astigmatic is widely regarded as one of the most important European jazz albums; British critic Stuart Nicholson describes the album as "marking a shift away from the dominant American approach with the emergence of a specific European aesthetic.
