The original Demon album didn’t even crack the top 50 and it would be 1998 with Mr. Love Pants before Dury would see chart action again. But as expert/fan Will Birch argues (he wrote the liners notes) – The Bus Driver’s Prayer & Other Stories is a bit of an overlooked gem in a catalogue of witty winners.

Even though The Bus Driver's Prayer And Other Stories is named after the track, this is Dury's first recording of the song. Ironically, two of the tracks, "Apples" and "England's Glory", were written over 13 years earlier while Dury was still in Kilburn & The Highroads.

Dury's often-overlooked gem, "The Bus Driver's Prayer" was originally issued on the Demon label in 1992. A return to form after the albums without The Blockheads, these fourteen songs saw Ian reunited with Mickey Gallagher, Chaz Jankel, Davey Payne and John Turnbull, along with new collaborator, guitarist Merlin Rhys-Jones. Stand-out tracks are "Poor Joey" and "Poo-Poo In The Prawn".
