Rock Me Baby" is a blues standard that has become one of the most recorded blues songs of all time. It originated as "Rockin' and Rollin'", a 1951 song by Lil' Son Jackson, itself inspired by earlier blues. Renditions by Muddy Waters and . King made the song well-known. King's recording of "Rock Me Baby" was released in 1964, it became his first single to reach the Top 40 in Billboard magazine's Hot 100 chart.

Perfil: Soul singer from Brooklyn, New York. He was also an accomplished musician on keyboards and percussion. Coming from a musical family, he started singing in gospel choirs in his teens, before studying music at Brooklyn College. He learned keyboards and percussion, forming a gospel group, the Zionettes, who recorded for Simpson Records and achieved some local success. In 1962, Johnson signed as a solo singer with Bigtop Records, run by the Hill & Range music publishing company in the Brill Building. There, he met the songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David, who wrote Johnson's first single, "If I Never Get to Love You". Neither that song nor his second record, "You Better Let Him Go", were hits, but his third single, "Reach Out for Me", also written by Bacharach and David and this time produced by Bacharach, reached 74 on the Billboard Hot 100 in late 1963.

It’s unsure where it’s origin is from but it’s assumed to be created in the . although the first recording is dated in England (by an assumed English immigrant). This rhyme/lullaby has many variants also and the most popular form is a quatrain: Rock-a-bye baby, on the treetop, When the wind blows, the cradle will rock, When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall, And down will come baby, cradle and all. It’s said but not concluded to be the first rhyme written on American soil.

Rock-a-bye, baby On the treetop When the wind blows The cradle will rock If the bough breaks The cradle will fall But mama will catch you Cradle and all. Baby is drowsing Cozy and fair Mother sits near In her rocking chair Forward and back The cradle she swings And though baby sleeps He hears what she sings. Hush a bye baby Up in the sky On a soft cloud it’s easy to fly Angels keep watch Over as you sleep So hush a bye baby Don’t make a peep. Rock a bye baby Do not you fear Never mind baby Mother is near Wee little fingers Eyes are shut tight Now sound asleep Until morning light
