René Girard, a French historian, literary critic, and philosopher of social science, "grudgingly" praised Frazer for recognising kingly sacrifice as "a key primitive ritual", but described his interpretation of the ritual as "a grave injustice to ethnology. Marianne Girard and Allan Fraser had been making music for over thirty and forty years respectively before a chance meeting in 2013 lead to the development of a new musical partnership Fraser & Girard and the release of a self-titled album.
