Frankie Avalon (born Francis Thomas Avallone; September 18, 1940) is an American actor, singer, and former teen idol. Avalon had 31 charted . Billboard singles from 1958 to late 1962, including the number one hits "Venus" and "Why" in 1959. Avalon was born in Philadelphia, the son of Mary and Nicholas Avallone. In December 1952, Avalon made his American network television debut playing the trumpet in the Honeymooners "Christmas Party" sketch on The Jackie Gleason Show.

Frankie Avalon and Fabian were both managed by Bob Marcucci and both recorded for Chancellor Records, and the result is that there are several collections pairing Avalon's hits with Fabian's. This one is a cut above the others on the grounds of packaging - there are brief liner notes by Andy McKaie - sound - the tracks have been mastered by Greg Fulginiti - and selection - compiler Marcucci reaches beyond the usual Avalon hits, in fact bypassing his biggest hit, "Venus," and in favor of "Don't. Throw Away All Those Teardrops," and skipping Fabian's.

Taking his Italian ancestry as his inspiration, Frankie had long wanted to record an album of Italian songs, a dream that was finally realised in 1962 with the release of Italiano. It was a brave album, one which was well received on release even if it did fail to make any impact on the chart.
