Little Mike and the Tornadoes. Little Mike and the Tornadoes are an American blues and rock and roll band from New York City. They are known for their high energy blues sound, modeled after the Chicago bands in the 1950s. Since 1990, they have released nine albums on a variety of record labels.

After Hours is the debut solo-album of the blues piano player Pinetop Perkins. He is backed by the New York-based blues band, Little Mike and the Tornadoes, using the Chicago blues approach. Released in 1988 by Blind Pig Records, the album, produced by Edward Chmelewski and Jerry Del Giudice, featured 12 songs, including blues standards and original material. The album was recorded in New York City at Chelsea Sound by Natasha Turner.

After that Little Mike couldn’t get enough. If a blues show was in New York City, Mike was there, especially when the Chicago players came to town. I used to go and see Muddy anytime he was within 150 miles of New York, he said. After leading a series of bands as a teenager, Mike formed the Tornadoes in 1978. At age 22, Mike was leading one of the busiest and toughest blues bands in New York City.

Although Little Mike met Pinetop in the 1970s while he was with Muddy, it was after Pinetop left the Legendary Blues Band that he began to play regularly with Little Mike and the Tornados.
