Highgate (/ˈhaɪɡeɪt, -ɡɪt/) is a suburban area of north London at the north-eastern corner of Hampstead Heath, . miles (. km) north north-west of Charing Cross. Highgate is one of the most expensive London suburbs in which to live. It has an active conservation body, the Highgate Society, to protect its character. Until late Victorian times it was a distinct village outside London, sitting astride the main road to the north
Highgate Cemetery is a place of burial in north London, England. There are approximately 170,000 people buried in around 53,000 graves across the West Cemetery and the East Cemetery at Highgate Cemetery. Highgate Cemetery is notable both for some of the people buried there as well as for its de facto status as a nature reserve. The Cemetery is designated Grade I on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.
Highgate Cemetery has almost become synonymous with the paranormal and unexplained. From the moment that it first opened, there have been stories of strange events and bizarre happenings. One early report concerns Elizabeth Siddal. Ms Siddal was the wife of renowned Victorian artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti. David Farrant is perhaps the leading authority on the Highgate Vampire. A founding member of the British Psychic and Occult Society (BPOS), he was one of the first to conduct an investigation into whatever was going on. Farrant is a firm believer that if such a thing as a vampire exists, then it is an earth-bound spirit that have the ability to attack the living on a psychic level. The whole Bela Lugosi image of a smartly dressed peer of the realm is a totally misguided one. It didnt take long for the Highgate Vampire to take an interest in Farrant himself.

What shall I give my children? who are poor, Who are adjudged the leastwise of the land, Who are my sweetest lepers, who demand No velvet and no velvety velour; But who have begged me for a brisk contour, Crying that they are quasi, contraband Because unfinished, graven by a hand Less than angelic, admirable or sure. My hand is stuffed with mode, design, device. And plenitude of plan shall not suffice Nor grief nor love shall be enough alone To ratify my little halves who bear Across an autumn freezing everywhere
Highgate Cemetery is in two parts, the East Cemetery and the West Cemetery. Visitors may wander the East Cemetery unescorted, but for safety reasons unaccompanied visitors are not permitted in the West. Those killed in battle abroad were normally buried near where they fell, but the wounded were repatriated for medical attention and those who did not recover were also given official recognition. However, their families had the say on where they were buried and whether they wanted the CWG headstone or one of their own choosing. Take the Highgate Hill exit. Then either take a bus (210,143, 271) two stops to Waterlow Park or walk up Highgate Hill. It’s then a very pleasant five minute stroll through Waterlow Park to our gates.

Highgate West Hill may not even be up there with the toughest climbs in England, let alone the Alps and the Pyrenees, but don't let anyone tell you it doesn't hurt. After the gentle leg-stretcher of a ride up Highgate Road from Kentish Town station, you are suddenly on a hill you won't forget in a hurry. There's a consistently steep gradient from the little roundabout at the bottom of West Hill for about half a mile
One of Brisbane's biggest banes - and biggest boons - are our hills. In the window that pops up, make sure Location is set to Ask or Allow.
