Pieces of Eight is the eighth studio album by Styx, released on September 1, 1978. Like the band's previous album, The Grand Illusion (1977), it managed to achieve triple platinum certification, thanks to the hit singles "Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)" and "Renegade". The band members produced and recorded the album (like their previous three efforts) at Paragon Studios in Chicago with recording engineer Barry Mraz and mixing engineer Rob Kingsland.

A Walk Across the Rooftops is the debut album by Scottish band The Blue Nile, released on 30 April 1984 on Linn Records in the UK and on A&M Records in the US. Although the album was released to little fanfare and was not a big hit on its initial release, it slowly accumulated fans and sales through word of mouth as the years passed, and by the time the follow-up Hats was released in 1989, A Walk Across the Rooftops had sold 80,000 copies. It continued to gather praise when reissued in 2012.

Across the Blue Meridian is a progressive vocal jazz album with imaginative arrangements and flawless musicianship. Any of the eight Pieces could cut a solo album. This kind of jazz precision can only be achieved through dedicated, continuous training, and you'll certainly appreciate their craft. And they must be aware that their voices have an uncannily similar timbre, which makes their interesting harmonies sound quite ordinary. I'm just not convinced that the album's engineers understand that they're dealing with some of the best singers in America, who deserve the best soundscape to showcase their skills.

As with their previous albums, Across the Meridian mixes instrumentals and songs, weaving a gleeful path through the musical territory of film scores, 30s jazz, sun-drenched pop, electronica, and post-punk experimentation. Haunting and wistful vocals are set to a variety of soundscapes, sometimes appearing as a snatched fragment of the subconscious and dreamlike, at others crafting a story of longing or regret, drawing the listener into Pram’s uncanny world through the mirror.

Jean Toomer’s Blue Meridian is a poem of prophetic implications, arguing that in America there is the possibility for a new world vision wherein all barriers between people will be overcome. Toomer’s visionary, polemical poem focuses on those dimensions of conventional Western, particularly American, society that have sought to exclude others with whom one does not desire to identify and shows the possibilities inherent in the American people for overcoming these barriers and becoming one with the Universal Self, the spirit behind all existence. Certainly, the most important aspects of these sections are their movement from the black, to the white, to the blue g an alteration in perception from the conventional categories of black and white to the symbol of the unity of all peoples and ideals in the middle ground, or meridian.
