Such is the case with 'Round Midnight, recorded in 1965 and one of only three records that Andy and the Bey Sisters made. Andy, Salome, and Geraldine Bey were siblings who sang in tight three part vocal harmonies in a blend of jazz, R&B, and blues-that owed more to contemporary AM radio than any of the jazz vocal groups of the past. Round Midnight is an odd choice for a release, one that will continue to struggle to find an audience today. As an oddity of vocal jazz, it's a pleasant record but probably won't inspire you to seek out more of the material; neither is it one you'll return to that often. Track Listing: Love Medley; God Bless The Child; Squeeze Me; Tammy; Hallelujah, I Love He So; Everybody Loves My Baby; 'Round Midnight; Solitude; Feeling Good; Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye
Andrew W. Bey (born October 28, 1939 in Newark, New Jersey) is an American jazz singer and pianist. Bey has a wide vocal range, with a four-octave baritone voice. He worked on the 1959/1960 television show Startime with Connie Francis, and sang for Louis Jordan. At age 17, he formed a trio with his siblings Salome Bey and Geraldine Bey (de Haas) called Andy and the Bey Sisters. The trio went on a 16-month tour of Europe

Info for 'Round Midnight. Andy Bey is a fantastic jazz singer who bridges eras and generations, achieving that rare state of grace where his approach-marked by amazing range, full-bodied tone, and sheer melody-is both contemporary and timeless. In the 1960s, Bey had a vocal group with his sisters Salome and Geraldine, and „Round Midnight is a reissue of one of their three albums. They were unique, in that they were most certainly a jazz group, yet were unafraid to adapt influences and songs from pop and R&B.
Andy Bey is a singer and pianist of manifest gifts who has, nevertheless, occupied a fringe position in jazz. In the last ten years, Bey has returned to prominence as a mature solo performer. Reissued as a part of the Rudy Van Gelder series, 'Round Midnight is the third and last of the albums recorded in the early 1960s by Bey and his two older sisters, Salome and Geraldine Bey. Hearing it 42 years later is a reminder of how much music has changed - as there is nothing like this group's sound in music today, in jazz or elsewhere. The trio sings in close but relaxed harmony on every tune, copping a gospel style of harmonizing in many cases, then applying it to jazz singing.
Whether or not you care for those preachy holistic philosophy albums he made with Horace Silver, there's no doubt that Bey has long been one of the most distinctive jazz vocalists around. Huge commercial success may have eluded him, but he is a singer's singer. This reissue catches him in the mid1960s, as part of a vocal trio with his sisters, Salome and Geraldine. As soon as you learn that the guitarist Kenny Burrell and veteran bassist Milt Hinton are in the studio, you know you're in safe hands. The title of the Newley/Bricusse hit Feeling Good sums up the soulful, laid-back.
