Göran Månsson is not a new-comer to traditional Swedish music. Göran has taken a great interest in the traditional wooden whistles of the provinces of Jämtland and Härjesdalen which were rescued in extremis by the instrument maker Gunnar Stenmark who developed several models, some of which used early, non-tempered scales. The instruments themselves have thus been saved, but the playing tradition has alas been lost: only one recording exists of a traditional whistle player. In conclusion, I hope that for Swedish whistle players Mon will become the equivalent of what Jean-Michel Veillon’s album E Koad Nizan is to Breton flute players: the definitive reference.
