album with built-in appeal into stores ahead of the Stones' first American tour in three years. The fact that the Stones had amassed a sufficient number of hits since their last greatest-hits compilation in early 1966 (Big Hits: High Tide and Green Grass) made this a no-brainer, and its song lineup was as potent at the time as any compilation of hit singles by any artist.

For everyone praising the "mono" sound of this record (& it is undoubtedly good), be aware that non of this is true mono; all tracks are fold-downs

The UK 'Through the Past, Darkly', *is* indeed all true mono, except for 'Street Fighting Man', which is simply the fold-down of the album stereo mix as released on the "mono" 'Beggars Banquet' LP and possibly 'Honky Tonk Women', which is disputed, (as it may have only ever been a fold-down, even on the original mono 45 release). All tracks are not fold-downs, especially not 'You Better Move On' (which doesn't even have a true stereo mix, save for a 'fake reprocessed stereo' mix used on the stereo versions of this compilation). The mix of '2,000 Light Years From Home' is identical, mastering notwithstanding, to the mono mix on my mono US London 'Their Satanic Majesties Request' and the official mono mixes on the 2002 Singles Collection re-release and the recent 'Stones in Mono' box set. 'We Love You' and 'Dandelion' are also identical to the officially released mono mixes on those aforementioned digital releases, save for the quiet reprises at the end of each song (which were present on the 45 editions and the CD mono releases) having been excised for this LP. Additionally, 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' sounds identical to the mono single mix available on 'The Stones in Mono' and the 2002 Singles Collection 3CD set, and 'Mother's Little Helper' and 'Let's Spend The Night Together' are almost identical to the mono mixes on my original UK and US mono copies of 'Aftermath' and 'Between the Buttons', respectively.

It's also the only vinyl LP to feature the mono mixes of 'We Love You' and 'Dandelion' as well as the mono single mix of 'She's A Rainbow'. Of note, it also features the hard to find dedicated mono mixes of '2,000 Light Years From Home' and 'She's A Rainbow'.

Amazing pressing. As I know, it's one of the very few records (or the only one) who feature a mix of "Jumpin' Jack Flash" in mono...
