My Downfall (Original Soundtrack) is an album by breakcore artist Venetian Snares. The title is in reference not to an actual soundtrack but rather the soundtrack to Aaron Funk's "downfall". It is said to be a follow-up to the 2005 album Rossz Csillag Alatt Született, as hinted by the reappearing Hungarian song titles. Aaron was quoted as saying, "This album has nothing to do with dubstep and very little to do with breakcore.

My Downfall is meant to satisfy the fans' cravings for a follow up to his last album, Rossz Csillag Alatt Született, which pretty much overturned the scene by presiding over the unlikely union of modern classical and breakcore.

Venetian Snares - My Downfall. Popular electronic artist, Aphex Twin (aka Richard James), though he has a goofy discography, has one album that particularly sticks out from the smooth electronica of his universally renowned albums I Care Because You Do and the Richard D. James Collection. His 2001 LP, Drukqs is a curious album of dissonant piano solos and epic breakbeat tracks that is difficult to digest in its double LP format.

Since 2005 there has been one Venetian Snares album that everybody has talked about. This is the thematic follow-up to that masterpiece: Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett, Aaron’s story of falling in love amongst the spires of Budapest, scored by Orchestra and the Amen break. If that album was in effect a question, then this album is his answer: the unfolding of this particular Hungarian story. If anything My Downfall is even more epic and bombastic than it’s predecessor, but not without those little humourous touches so beloved of Snares

Two years after the landmark breakcore symphony of Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett, Winnipeg's Aaron Funk has returned with a proper follow-up. My Downfall, though a welcome continuation of Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett, lacks the full epochal freshness of that album's innovations, and tends to obscure them a little in somewhat less striking material. A few elements have been added, a few removed, but on the whole it's fairly familiar ground. Still, removed from the expectations created by Rossz, it's a masterful synthesis of aggression and beauty. Removed from the expectations of being a Venetian Snares album, it's nearly unbelievable

This is a seriously good album. No bones about it, one of the best VS releases ever. It would always have to be pretty good to be a follow-up to 'Rossz...' and Mr. Funk certainly excelled with this album The whole album is full of despair and sadness, tracks like 'The Hopeless Pursuit of Remission' set the tone for the entire album. There are no vocals here, only music. Classical pieces intertwined with breakcore, most notably on the incredible track 'Integraation' and 'My Half'. The further you get through the album the more filled with sorrow it becomes. The final 4 tracks are among the most beautiful pieces of music I've heard, starting off with 'I'm Sorry I Failed You' through the short 'Picturesque Pit' and into 'If I Could Say I Love You' which has to be the most sombre, tear-jerkingly sad track I have ever heard. Seriously, it's hard to fight back the odd tear or two when listening to that

By now Aaron Funk needs no introduction. From Winnipeg, Canada, Funk has been producing experimental idm, glitchcore and orchestral breakcore for renown labels, such as Hymen, Sublight, and of course, Planet Mu. With his critically acclaimed and instantly recognizable style, Funk drops drilling breaks over synthesized symphonic instrumentation which is often sliced up with snare rolls. My Downfall is meant to satisfy the fans' cravings for a follow up to his last album, Rossz Csillag Alatt Született, which pretty much overturned the scene by presiding over the unlikely union of modern classical and breakcore. But in his own downfall, Funk takes a further step into chamber composition, scattering abstract numbered sketches titled Holló Utca (Raven Street in Hungarian) throughout the album, as well as heart breaking, mourning pieces that seep under your skin and touch in all the wrong places.
