Even the album’s title, Lándini, refers directly to his home life and the jetty where at the end of the day, the local people of Plaplaya would land their boats. Aurelio is a gifted musician and singer, but also a proud ambassador for the unique Garifuna culture and the production and playing create a wonderful complexity to this music, and its unique blend of Latin and African influence, mixed with the paranda song style of the Garifuna making it quite unlike anything else. The album zips by, twinkle toed on frisky rhythms, even as it carries with it the emotional weight of the stories, mapping out the daily concerns of life, things that we can all recognise.

On the Caribbean coast of Honduras, in the tiny village of Plaplaya, Garifuna songwriter, singer, and guitarist Aurelio first learned music at his mother's knee. At the end of the day, villagers would return in their boats to the river landing, gathering to hear paranda, the guitar-driven music of Garifuna troubadours who teased and taught, bemoaned and praised community life. His childhood village has become a touchstone for Aurelio, a dedicated Garifuna cultural advocate and musical innovator.

This album is purely Garifuna, and the entire spirit of the music reflects the Garifuna experience. It was only by putting great distance between himself and Plaplaya that Aurelio began to hear this spirit in new ways. He toured the world, performing his own music and paying tribute to his late friend and fellow Garifuna music advocate, Andy Palacio. Lándini is an elegant creation. Its easy, swaying rhythms overlaid (at times contradicted) by Aurelio's impassioned vocals. there's a ruminative, melancholic undertow throughout and some deft surf-guitar work.

Aurelio Martinez has two major roles in his life: He's a musician, specializing in the music of the Garifuna people of Central America, but he's also a politician who advocates for their rights. Music, for me, is my weapon to make change," Martinez says, "to bring power and empower the people in our community, and to give pride to our children. This new album is like coming back to my roots, like coming back to my town," Martinez says. Some of his those co-written songs even made it onto the record - like the track "Irawani" ("Midnight. ) In it, Maria recalls late nights spent waiting up for her son.
