It was released on 12 August 2013 by Fiction Records in the UK and Europe, and on 20 August 2013 in the US (Harvest Records) and Canada (Universal Music Canada). The album was produced by Ed Buller at ICP Studios in Brussels, Belgium. On 18 August 2013, the album debuted at No. 4 on the UK Albums Chart.

Big TV is another awesome album by White Lies and it does not disappoint. I love every song on the album. Taken as a whole "Big TV" is much better album than "Ritual. Where "Ritual" often felt hallow, or like it was filled with songs that failed to make the cut on the first album, "Big TV" feels more honest, and heart felt. I can imagine in my mind the band feeling quite satisfied with each finished song in a way they probably weren't last time. I obviously don't know how they felt then or now, but I think it's how I would have felt in their place.

White Lies - 'Big TV'. I’m bored. But in parts they’re still deadeningly generic. Tell you what, shall we put the TV on? Take a second to admire the set, though, because White Lies’ third album is a 55-inch beast of a thing, solid and well crafted by a band wholly confident in their songwriting. There’s a film on, too: a loose concept about a young woman who moves from the provinces of an Eastern European country to a big Western city, and the pressures it puts on her relationship. Arty, intelligent, tasteful. Subtitled, most likely.
