Dimmu Borgir (/ˌdɪmuː ˈbɔːrɡɪər/) is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band from Oslo, Norway, formed in 1993. The name is derived from Dimmuborgir, a volcanic formation in Iceland, the name of which means "dark cities" or "dark castles/fortresses" in Icelandic, Faroese and Old Norse. The band has been through numerous lineup changes over the years; vocalist Shagrath and rhythm guitarist Silenoz are the only original members who still remain, with lead guitarist Galder being a longstanding member.

Since the release of their breakthrough album Enthrone Darkness Triumphant in 1997 they have become one of the biggest extreme metal bands worldwide. After their original drummer Tjodalv left the band in 1999, they have not had permanent drummer. Also, since 2009, when ICS Vortex (Simen Hæstnæs) and Mustis (Øyvind Mustaparta) quit/were fired, the only permanent band members have been Shagrath, Silenoz and Galder, who accompany themselves with session musicians for live and recording purposes.
This Dimmu Borgir discography is ranked from best to worst, so the top Dimmu Borgir albums can be found at the top of the list. Formed in Oslo, Norway in 1993, Dimmu Borgir defined the Norwegian black metal scene with their debut album For all tid (2009). They've since broadened their heavy sound with their first concept album, In Sorte Diaboli (2007). To make it easy for you, we haven't included Dimmu Borgir singles, EPs, or compilations, so everything you see here should only be studio albums
