The Collection is a compilation album by Irish musical group Clannad, released in 1987 by K-tel International Ltd. It consists of their greatest hits dating back to 1972, with the tracks featuring a mix between pop rock influenced songwriting done by the band in addition to traditional folk music

Clannad is the debut album by Irish folk group Clannad. It was released in 1973 by Philips Ireland. It was reissued in 1982 under the name The Pretty Maid. In 1997, it was released on CD for the first time by Royal Records International again under the name Clannad, with a bonus track from 1975. The album features songs in both Irish Gaelic and English, including a cover version of Bonnie Dobson's "Morning Dew", as well as many traditional Irish songs. The album features In a Lifetime. Recorded in 1985, Bono joined Irish band Clannad on the song In a Lifetime, which was initially released on the album Macalla in 1985. Clannad released their third album Dúlamán in 1976. The album is named after the Irish folk song "Dúlamán" which became a fan favourite at Clannad concerts. Dúlamán was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales and is their first album produced by Nicky Ryan. They supported Dúlamán with their first tour of Europe which they completed in 1976, during which a standing ovation they received after an extended rendition of "Níl Sé'n Lá" convinced them to continue with Clannad full time. Dates from their 1978 tour of Switzerland was released in the following year as Clannad in Concert. This album also included tracks from Magical Ring, Macalla, and Sirius. The Collection k-Tel, re-released in 1996 under the label's Celtic Collections series. Unlike Past Present however, it also included five earlier tracks from their more traditional Irish period.

Three singles were released to promote the compilation: "The Hunter", "In a Lifetime" (re-issue) and the band's only double A-side "Hourglass"/"Theme from Harry's Game".
