Manchester’s Walton expresses his sino-grime-house sound on Tectonic with the rudely elegant Praying Mantis and meaner, sharply punctuated swerve of Koto.

Praying Mantis’ glides in on a feather-light hi-hat pattern before giving way to a delightfully graceful harp solo. Walton then layers bass hits, skittering percussion and the odd bit of zither with a painterly craftsmanship. B-side ‘Koto Riddim’ recalls the early 2000s Sinogrime golden age more overtly, though the drum tracking is still defined by a feeling of careful measurement.
