He was a respected club performer in Chicago, before recording three solo albums for Watchdog Records. The son of fellow Chicago blues musician Lonnie Brooks, he is the brother of another blues guitarist, Wayne Baker Brooks a better than average soul singer, a fine blues interpreter, and a monster guitarist with an ample.

Baker already had a band by then, one he'd been touring on the side with since 1992. But by 1998 he'd started a label; that year he made his first album, Golddigger, 16 songs tracked out in two weeks. In early 2013 Ronnie Baker Brooks traveled to the late Willie Mitchell's fabled Royal Studios in Memphis. There he recorded a clutch of new songs with producer/drummer Steve Jordan (Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Robert Cray), the Memphis Horns, and the mighty Hi Rhythm section. The sessions also featured performances by musical friends like Angie Stone, Al Kapone, Big Head Todd and the legendary Bobby Blue Bland.
