Album · 2009 · 62 Songs. Symphony No. 9 in D Minor Op. 125 "Choral". By Ludwig van Beethoven - Kurt Masur & Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra.
Kurt Sanderling: Legendary Recordings. The picture of East German conductor Kurt Sanderling revealed in this 16-disc collection is that of a superlative, if inconsistent, conductor. His 1960 recording with the Dresden Staatskapelle of Borodin's Symphony No. 2 and In the Steppes of Central Asia plus Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture is breathtaking in its immense lyricism and power.
Kurt Masur - Last performance. Masur also recorded a message urging nonviolence and blasted it on the radio and over loudspeakers, and amazingly, both sides listened. That day and those talks helped urge on a peaceful nationwide revolution. Masur later told The Independent about the occasion, saying: No one knew what would happen, and I had only some minutes to decid. .But I also knew that if I didn’t do something I would regret it for the rest of my life. Today, Masur may be more well-known for his skill as conductor than for his activist work
Kurt Masur (18 July 1927 – 19 December 2015) was a German conductor. Called "one of the last old-style maestros", he directed many of the principal orchestras of his era. He had a long career as the Kapellmeister of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, and also served as music director of the New York Philharmonic. He left many recordings of classical music played by major orchestras
Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. Edda Moser (soprano), Rosemarie Lang (mezzo-soprano), Peter Schreier (tenor), Theo Adam (bass-baritone). Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue. Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. Siegfried Stockigt (piano). Gershwin: Porgy and Bess - Suite. Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Franz Konwitschny, Heinz Bongartz, Igor Markevitsch, Kurt Sanderling, Vaclav Neumann, Kurt Masur. Beethoven, Ludwig van (1770-1827). Brahms, Johannes (1833-97). Bruckner, Anton (1824-96). Dvorak, Antonin (1841-1904).
His belief in music's power to bring people together was fierce and unwavering. Thanks for all you did for NYC, il -AG. - Alan Gilbert (ertConducts) December 19, 2015. Masur was born in 1927 in Brieg, Lower Silesia, Germany (now part of Poland). In 1970 he became Kapellmeister of the Gewandhausorchester in Leipzig, East Germany, and served in that post until 1986. When Masur took the helm of the New York Philharmonic in 1991, the orchestra was in a dire straits. Its recording contracts were hanging by a thread, its musicians discontent and its audiences underwhelmed. For the next decade, the conductor put the NY Phil back on the road to global success.
