Johann Strauss II (born Johann Baptist Strauss; 25 October 1825 – 3 June 1899), also known as Johann Strauss J. the Younger, the Son (German: Sohn), son of Johann Strauss I, was an Austrian composer of light music, particularly dance music and operettas. He composed over 500 waltzes, polkas, quadrilles, and other types of dance music, as well as several operettas and a ballet.

Karajan was associated with the Wiener Strausses just as much as with Richard Strauss throughout his career (he made his first Johann Strauss recordings in 1940-41), and part of the virtue of his approach is exactly that he treats this music with no less respect and seriousness than more ambitious symphonic music of the Wiener Strausses' namesake. There is thus nothing vulgar or banal about these interpretations, just wonderfully shaped and paced (with just the merest hint of rubato) interpretations, superbly played and sporting some truly gorgeous textures and almost dreamlike, spirited.

Herbert von Karajan - Johann Strauss: An Der Schonen, Blauen Donau, The Blue Danube, Disc NM, Case NM, Format: Music CD, Deutsche Grammophon Records. Classical music CD release from Herbert von Karajan with the album Johann Strauss: An Der Schonen, Blauen Donau, The Blue Danube. Released on the label Deutsche Grammophon Records. Herbert von Karajan not only excelled at Richard Strauss, but had a real talent with Johann as well. These lovely recordings are beautifully handled by Mr. K. and have fabulous DG sound. I actually found myself humming along.

In studio record of this music release "Johann Strauss, Josef Strauss" attended those artists: Herbert von Karajan (Conductor), Berliner Philharmoniker (Orchestra), Karl Swoboda (Zither), Watch now the music video Johann Strauss J. Josef Strauß, Johann Strauss S. Berliner Philharmoniker, Herbert von Karajan - Johann Strauss, Josef Strauss: Johann Strauss II - An der schönen, blauen Donau - Walzer, Op. It is interesting to reflect that Johann Strauss II's An der schönen blauen Donau (By the beautiful blue Danube), the most famous of all orchestral waltzes, was.

Included in the newer series are the recordings one would expect: the Strauss Metamorphosen, the Bruckner Eighth Symphony, and Karajan's Beethoven Ninth. Love him or hate him, the works in which Karajan excelled were mostly of a serious, somewhat grandiose nature - making this compilation of Strauss waltzes and polkas an unlikely recording in which to feature the Austrian conductor, regardless of your personal feelings about his work
