Although a mini-album containing excerpts of the film ( épaves, meaning literally remains ) as well as its title track were released a couple of years ago by Alceste Musique, its somewhat unofficial status only seemed to confirm what had been vox populi since the film premiered back in 1970: that the original soundtrack tapes had been lost in a studio fire over forty.

Jean-Claude Vannier (born 1943) is a French musician, composer and arranger. Considering the amount of French artists he worked for from the early 1960s onwards, it was inevitable that he would work with Serge Gainsbourg. Starting in 1969 they collaborated on a number of soundtracks such as Slogan, La Horse, Cannabis, Les Chemins De Katmandou and Sex Shop. Vannier also produced, arranged and conducted Gaisnbourg's 1971 album Histoire De Melody Nelson.
