Crown Royal is the last studio album from pioneering hip-hop band Run-DMC. From 1983 until 1999, they recorded for indie label Profile Records-and over the years, intermittent lawsuits filed on their behalf to extricate the group from the label stalled the recording of new material (it was an open secret that Run's brother Russell Simmons wanted them released to record for his label Def Jam-but Profile owners stonewalled). In the meanwhile, trends in hip-hop came and went, and before long, the group were tagged as trend-chasers rather than trendsetters. Run-DMC stays true to its Rock/Rap roots with appearences by the hottest MCs and rock artists. Nas, Prodigy, Fred Durst, Kid Rock, Method Man, Fat Joe, and Sugar Ray all appear on a track with Run.
