The Chordettes were an American female popular singing quartet, usually singing a cappella, and specializing in traditional popular music. They are best known for their hit songs "Mr. Sandman" and "Lollipop". The group organized in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, in 1946. The original members of the group were Janet Ertel, Alice Mae Buschmann Spielvogel (replaced by Carol Buschmann, her sister-in-law, in 1947), Dorothy "Dottie" (Hummitzsch) Schwartz, and Jinny Osborn/Lockard (April 25, 1927 – May 19, 2003)

Sandman" was written by song-writer Pat Ballard and first recorded by The Chordettes. It became the first hit for them, staying at for an amazing seven weeks in 1954 and launching their career. The Chordettes eventually went on to peek into the Top-40 nine times total. The Chordettes were Jinny Osborn, Nancy Overton, Lynn Evans and Carol Buschmann. This song is an excellent example of their main form, singing close harmony a cappella with minimal accompaniment

Sandman" was written by Pat Ballard, published in 1954 and first recorded in that same year by The Chordettes. The song was released on the Cadence Records label. According to the Mr. Sandman Songfacts, the chorus features a circle of fifths followed for six chords in a row within the chorus' chord progression. Everyone's been wondering the chordettes names. Lynn Evans starts them off first, Next is the small one, Jinny Osborn,( or say it Jennie. Then the tallest, Carol Bushman, And then my favourite, Janet Ertel Blyer. Sadly, Janet Ertel Blyer died in 1988, Jinny Osborn died in 2003, On April 5, 2009, Nancy Overton died after a long battle with esophageal cancer, Dorothy Dottie (Hummitzsch) Schwartz died on April 4, 2016. The remaining Chordettes still alive today are: " Lynn Evans, Carol Bushman, and Margie Needham.
