Andy Cato has announced the release of Times & Places. The 18-track collection from the Groove Armada star was recorded over the past 20 years and is released on R&S imprint Apollo Records on April 29. The CD comes packaged with a hardback book featuring photos and liner notes that were found during the sourcing of the tracks. Times & Places was compiled from cassettes, eight-track tapes and floppy disks, with some of the music being re-recorded for the collection as the data had deteriorated.

In stock now for same day shipping. It's little surprise, then, to find that this debut solo album covers a wide range of moods and styles. While largely downtempo by nature (something Groove Armada were famed for in the late '90s/early 2000s), Times & Places refuses to stick to one style. Instead, Cato gleefully flits between string-drenched soundtrack fare ("The Coastal Path"), Balearic warmth ("Abbey Road Jam"), simmering instrumental synth-pop ("Sunrise St Agnes", "Moscow to St Petersburg By Train") and jazz-flecked hip-hop beats ("Together Is The Word").

Cato's history in dance music goes deep, from his work as a UK rave promoter in the '90s, through to his lengthy discography as one half of house group Groove Armada. R&S sub-label Apollo will release the album, a collection of recordings that stretch back as far as 20 years.
