Carlene Carter (born Rebecca Carlene Smith; September 26, 1955) is an American country singer and songwriter. She is the daughter of June Carter and her first husband, Carl Smith. Between 1978 and the present, Carter has recorded twelve albums, primarily on major labels. In the same timespan, she has released more than twenty singles, including three No. 3-peaking hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.
Demon Records reissued Carlene Carter's Musical Shapes and Blue Nun on one disc in 1992. Neither album is straight country - with their propulsive rhythms and jangling guitars, they exhibit the influence of her then-current husband Nick Lowe - but Musical Shapes is one of her best records, and worth getting in any form. Great songs and production that could easily fit into today's climate of country radio.
Musical Shapes is the third album by American singer Carlene Carter. The only song to make the Billboard country singles chart was "Baby Ride Easy," (written by Richard Dobson) a duet with Dave Edmunds of the British rock band Rockpile.
