Otis Rush Jr. (April 29, 1934 – September 29, 2018) was an American blues guitarist and singer-songwriter. His distinctive guitar style featured a slow-burning sound and long bent notes. With qualities similar to the styles of other 1950s artists Magic Sam and Buddy Guy, his sound became known as West Side Chicago blues and was an influence on many musicians, including Michael Bloomfield, Peter Green and Eric Clapton.

Otis Rush has always been one of the enigmas of the Blues World. He has retired, refused to play, walked out on recording sessions, even changed his voice (ala "Screamin' and Moanin'). Otis has not had a CD release in seven years since the excellent "Any Place I'm Goin'" set in 1998 (a lovely innovative recording). Otis and Buddy Guy are the last of the West Side Bluesmen. While Buddy seems to get more popular and out there, Otis seems to have gotten more reclusive. We hear a younger, stronger and very impressive Mr Rush. This set was recorded at the Wise Fools Pub in Chicago. It was part of a Chicago Radio Station live concert series sponsored by 7 Up of all things. This CD is a must for Otis fans.
Right Place, Wrong Time is a 1976 album by blues singer and guitarist Otis Rush. Although regarded as one of his finest recordings, the album was not issued until five years after it was recorded. It was originally released on the independent Bullfrog label after Rush bought the tapes. In 1986 the rights were acquired by Hightone.

Rush was left-handed and strummed with his left hand while fretting with his right. However, his guitars were strung with the low E string at the bottom, in reverse or upside-down to typical guitarists. He often played with the little finger of his pick hand curled under the low E for positioning.
